Atlas Steel, Inc. of Salt Lake City and The David J. Joseph Company of Cincinnati have announced the formation of a new scrap processing company, comprised of the operations of Atlas Steel and DJJ’s Plymouth (Utah) and Denver Processing Yards. The new company, named Western Metals Recycling, LLC. is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mickey Simmons, Chairman of Atlas, is the President and CEO of Western Metals Recycling, LLC. Metals will continue the operation of the Atlas plants in Salt Lake City (two plants), Ogden, and Provo as well as Joseph’s plants in Plymouth and Denver.
Atlas Steel has been processing ferrous and nonferrous scrap in Utah for more than 20 years. The David J. Joseph Company was founded in 1885 and operates Nonferrous and Transportation Services Divisions in addition to its ferrous scrap activities, which include processsing, domestic and international brokerage, and providing scrap management services to steel mills. The Joseph Company is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is owned by SHV Energy, N.V., of Utrecht, The Netherlands.
